One Lonely Soul - Skye

Jogging around in the dark forest was part of Jared's past time. He was used to these dark woods after all this was the place he had been living every single full moon since he came here. The young Hufflepuff probably knew this place like the back of his hand.

Sitting down on one of the fallen logs, Jared absently picked at the moss that was covering the log. He was prepared to live out the rest of the school year with out making a huge deal about his wolf side. Last year, there had been a close call. He just didn't want it to happen again.

A sudden snap of a twig alerted Jared that someone else was in the woods. His keen hearing told him that whomever it was, was coming from behind him. Swiveling around, the boy focused on the low steps that were coming closer to him.

Skye had been smoking in her dorm, blowing the smoke out of the window, when she realised it was still way to nice out. She'd expected the evening to be colder, but there wasn't even a gust of wind. So she'd pulled on her leather jacket over her tanktop and walked outside with just her wand and packet of cigarettes. She was still wearing the sweatpants she pulled on this morning, since she didn't have any classes today.

Skye'd already smoked two of the cigarettes when she came to the side of the haunted forrest looked back at the castle before shrugging and stepping confidantly through the trees. She loved this place and knew she probably shouldn't be smoking here, but these were the two things that calmed her down completely. Smoking and being in the woods, seeing random creatures walking around. Skye kind of wished she'd brought her sketchbook, so she could sit down and draw them, and she cursed herself for not bringing it.

She took a long, final drag of her blunt and stepped it out. She'd pick it up on the way back. She almost got to the clearing with logs she was going for, when she noticed someone was already there. She smiled when she saw who it was. The werewolf from hufflepuff was in her year too and of course she'd meet him here. She'd be here all the time too if she was him.

Skye slowed down her steps, hoping he hadn't heard her yet. It was going to be a challenge to scare the werewolf, if not dangerous, but it wasn't full moon yet and who doesn't love a little danger? As she got closer she stepped on a few branches and she mentally slapped herself. Watch where you're walking damn it! Skye was almost there when she saw the guy perk up though and she closed in the last few steps quickly to grab his shoulders and growl in his ear. She started laughing at her own fail immediately and plopped down next to Jared on the log.

"Ay wolfy, how you doin'?" Skye said jokingly.

When whomever it was finally showed up, Jared recognized that it was Skye Williams, a girl in his year. He rolled his eyes and let out a soft snort when the girl grabbed him by the shoulder and growled into his ear. "Very funny." The werewolf muttered dryly, a small smile barely forming on his lips.

However a soft growl emerged between his jaws when Jared heard Skye call him wolfy. How many times had he asked her not to call him that? Hundreds, even thousands? Yet she would not listen. Long ago had he finally given up in trying. Controlling his temper, the boy shrugged his broad shoulders. "I'm alright. You?" He replied evenly, his dark eyes giving the girl a silent warning.

The only reason why he hadn't bitten the girl's head off yet was because she had done and said nothing horrible to offend him. The only thing that she had done was a little jabs here and there. That, he could tolerate. Mean name callings and other bull, he could not. He shuddered softly remembering the fateful day last year when someone really pushed his buttons. That day was definitely not a good day at all.

Skye snickered a little and nodded. "It was a little funny..." She said pouting, but smirked when she saw the dark glint in the guy's eyes. "Alright, alright! Jared. I'll call you Jared 'kay?" Skye added a sweet smile to show him that she's serious, she wasn't in the mood to play with anyone right now. Hell, she just came out for a smoke. She eyed half-full packet in her hands, but resisted taking one out. Instead she held out one of her hands towards Jared.

"I come in peace. I swear." She said and made a crappy peace sign with the hand still holding on to the cigarettes. "Truce?" She asked with her eyebrows pulled up and kind of expected Jared to ignore her entire gesture. Last year she'd loved pushing his buttons a little, but never too much of course. She could imagine it was hella annoying though. And hey, we're a year older now, I'm supposed to be maturing.

"I mean, we both love this place..." Skye continued and waved her cigarettes around, gesturing at the trees around them. "Don't want any war going on, cause I know you'll win." She added with a lopsided smile. She wasn't even talking about the fact that Jared was a werewolf, she just wasn't that great at magic in general.

Jared tilted his head to the side, giving off a cute puppy look. His eyes searched the girl's face, trying to see if she was serious or not about finally calling him Jared. Skye's eyes only dropped to her cigs that were in her hands once. Other than that, the boy could tell that she was actually serious about it. Slowly, the werewolf reached out and took the offered hand.

A smirk flitted across Jared's face when Skye made a peace sign with her free hand. "Sure you come in peace." He murmured, but then shrugged his shoulders. "Aren't we always at truce? I mean I haven't attacked you yet right?" He added in a low bitter voice.

Silently, Jared nodded his head, agreeing with Skye's comment about how they both loved the woods. He let out a soft snicker when the girl said that she didn't want war for she knew that he was going to win it. "Alright Skye, I get it." He said evenly, "Truce it is. So what are you doing here, aside from teasing me?" The werewolf asked with a genuine smile on his face. He was going to try his best to tolerate this strange girl.

Skye giggled at the tilt of Jared's head, it was adorably and he totally looked like he was a puppy in that moment, but Skye shut her mouth again after opening it. She was trying her best not to tease him, he better appreciate it a little, and she was actually pretty proud of herself for not saying anything. The look on her face probably told him all about how cute she thought that little movement was though, so it didn't really matter.

"I do come in peace, come on, I haven't teased you for like... 10 seconds already, how can you not believe me?" She joked, but shook her head. "I'm serious though." She added and she gave him her honest look one more time, hoping to confince him finally.

Skye giggled again at what he said next and looked up at the sky through the trees surrounding the clearing. "True, but that's more because your self control is amazing! " She glanced at him out of the corners of her eyes, to check his reaction.

"I came out for a smoke in the nice weather, relaxing you know? Then decided to come here to calm down even more. It's my favourite spot, but you beat me there." She told Jared and shifted on the log, laying down looking at the werewolf from below. "How about you? "

Jared noticed that Skye had opened her mouth to say something, but then decided against it. He raised an eyebrow at the girl and asked, "Okay Skye, spill. What is it now?" He wasn't at all angry, in fact he was rather curious in what Skye wanted to tell him. But the look on her face told him all he wanted to know, but he just wanted confirmation on it.

Jared then rolled his eyes and snorted. "Oh wow, 10 seconds is such a big accomplishment." He said in a teasing voice, his eyes bright with amusement. He now remembered why he had tolerated Skye in the first place. She was one of the few people who could make him laugh. Chuckling softly he added, "Okay, I believe that you are serious then."

"My self-control is amazing? Really? Humm, I have never thought about it that way before." Jared repeated softly, in a surprised voice. Seeing Skye look at him for his reaction to her comment, the boy allowed her to see a rare genuine smile appear on his face. He had always been rather careful in making friends, so his true smiles were rather rare and he only allowed a few people to see it. "I guess, you could put it that way. Sure and thanks for the complement."

Nodding his head, Jared sighed, "Ahh, I see. No wonder I smelt smoke around you. You know smoking is a terrible habit." He then snickered at Skye's next comment about him beating her here. "I didn't know that we were racing. But next time, I'll give you a head start okay?" He joked softly.

Jared then shrugged and replied, "Me? Well you know the usual. Jogging in the woods relaxes me. I feel more at home here than in the castle." The boy looked up into the sky and continued, "In the castle, I feel trapped, like some wild animal. However once I'm outside, I feel more free, to be myself."

"But I told you I wouldn't tease you anymore!" Skye said in a fake-whiny voice with a laugh when Jared wanted her to speak up. "It can be seen as another compliment though, so just take it like that 'kay?" She said with a smile and propped herself up on her elbows. "When you do this..." She tilted her head just like he had done and pointed at her face. "You look like a really cute puppy!" She giggled and lay back down again.

Skye smiled when she managed to make Jared laugh and looked at him with a fond smile. He should do that more often, it suits him better then the frowny face. She laughed with him and nodded her head enthusiasticly. "I know right! I'm so proud of myself, it's insane!"

"You're welcome, it's true." She said seriously, glancing up at him again. She was glad he accepted the compliment. If Skye had been a werewolf or any creature like that, she'd have murdered half the world already probably.

"Oh you're gonna have to give me a big head start for sure! I'm like a... a freaking snail or something so slow!" She shook her head laughing, nope running wasn't for her. Give her a broom and she'll be incredibly fast, but no running for Skye.

"It's a horrible habbit even. But yeah... Just like being here, it calms me down the most." She picked up some leaves from the ground and threw them away pointlessly. "And I feel like you always get the best ideas ever when you're smoking... Would you mind?" She asked and gestured with her cigarettes that she wanted to light one up. She wasn't desperate for it, but she didn't take them with her for nothing and it was just very tempting to do here at the moment.

Jared inclined his head to say that he acknowledged Skye statement and motioned for her to continue. When she told him that she thought that he was cute when he did his puppy look, the boy grinned at her. "Why thank you Skye, I thought so myself." He agreed.

The boy continued to laugh along with Skye. Slowly there laughter faded away until only the faint echo were left. Jared then heaved a sigh and looked around again. It had been such a long time since he had laughed this much. It felt nice to actually. If he wasn't careful, the small smile would be forever be etched on his face by her. Not that he was complaining of course.

"A big head start eh?" Jared said in a teasing voice, "I don't know... you don't seem like a snail, you seem fast on your feet." The boy added afterwards.

Listening to Skye explain why she smokes, Jared kind of get it, but he still thought that he was a bad habit that stinks. When she asked him if it was okay to smoke, the boy gave her a pointed look that plainly said, Really Skye, really? But he gave her the go ahead signal with his hand. If she wants to ruin her health, let her do so.

After much deliberation on what to say, the boy decided on the topic of the school Halloween ball. Turning to Skye, he said, "So, I heard that there is a Halloween ball coming soon. Are you going with anyone?"

Skye was happy the Hufflepuff seemed to be opening up a little, letting go a little. She'd probably never see him smile as much as he'd had in this short time than the entire last year. It made herself smile more too and she ran a hand through her hair to mess it up a little bit more.

"Good. You should know you're cute." She said absent-mindedly and brought one of her hands up to trace out a cloud with her index finger. She really wished she'd brought her sketchbook. She glanced at Jared and smiled, she even could've tried to draw him, but no such luck.

Skye laughed when Jared commented on what she'd said about being a snail and dropped her hand to hold her stomach. "Why thank you that's very sweet of you!" She said, still giggling. "But no, if you don't put me on a broom I'm really not that fast at all."

Skye gave him a thankful look when he gave her the go-ahead for a smoke, and she quickly got one of the blunts out to light it up. She inhaled deeply, held the smoke in for a few seconds and then made sure to blow it out in the other direction. "I don't always have to, 'cause usually I'll bring my sketch book to draw, but I forgot it."

When Jared started asking about the halloween ball coming up she grinned. People were going to be quite surprised on that night for sure, and she thought of the meeting she had with Scott, Ken and Jason. She quickly gathered herself for answer again though and shrugged. "I've never really seen the appeal to go with to a ball like that with just one person, but yeah... Someone might ask me yeah. How about you? Is there a lucky girl you're going with?"
