Potions Lesson One: Veritaserum

Aileen smiled, when the teacher said she wasn't too late. That was good, she'd had enough delays back in Hogwarts! Now it was over with forgetting and being late, now she would be different! Okay, she knew that she wouldn't manage that, but she could TRY! It was worth a try...

When the boy next to her said her name she looked at him. She thought a second, then she smiled at him. "Oh, hey Victor, nice to see you here... I hadn't known you're in Potions", she said smiling, when another student, a hufflepuff girl came in, followed by an other Ravenclaw girl. I'm the only Gryffindor here..., she thought, but it wasn't so bad. She wasn't one of those who thought they had to only stay in contact with the ones from their house.  The Ravenclaw Girl sat down on the other side next to Victor and Aileen looked at her. On first look she seemed nice... "Hey", she said to the girl and smiled.

With frantic motions, Jared bounded towards the classrooms. Oh he was late for his most favorite class, damn it. Good thing he was a rather fit Quidditch player and that he jogged everyday or he would have never made it tot the Potions classroom in once piece. Skidding to a halt in front of the door, he gently pushed it open.

Peering inside, he saw that a lot of people were here already. Jared with a sigh, walked into the room. Turning to the professor, he gave her a smile and apologized, "Sorry for being late. I had a rather rough night yesterday." It was true, due to it being the night after a full moon, the boy was still suppose to be bed-bound, and not at all suppose to be up and running already.

Sliding into an empty seat, Jared suddenly felt exhausted. Okay maybe he should have just stayed in bed today. Leaning his head against his arms, he looked up at the professor, waiting for her to start class officially.

Watching with an amused smile as the rest of her class filed in, Peyton held her wand in her left hand out and pointed it towards the room. With a flick of her wrist the door to the potions class room would close loudly behind them, signalling the beginning of the lesson. Putting her wand away with an unneccasary flourish, she moved in front of her desk and wore a bright grin as she looked around the room. "Welcome to the first lesson for the term. I am Professor Lovelace for those who do not know." she began. There was a momentary pause as she considered her words for a moment. Some of them seemed eager to be here, some of them seemed like they were simply killing time.

"I don't expect most of you shall like me much as I tend to give alot of work to be done outside of class. Potions are not an easy thing to learn and even more difficult to master. One wrong step and your potion could just as easily kill you instead of your intended effect." she said with a grim tone of voice. She would prefer not to see someone snuff out their life early simply because they chose not to pay attention to what she had to show them. "In my class your grade depends on the effort, not the end result. If you apply yourself, you will learn, and you will make your marks." she said, before motioning to the board.

"Today I wish to start with Veritaserum. Can anyone tell me what it does exactly?" she asked. She had a feeling that someone had to know, though she hoped no one knew from experiance. As she spoke the cauldron behind her flared to life, the flames beneath it heating the metal. A rather large mixing utensil began to stir the contents of the pot by it's self.

    Why was everyone sitting next to him?! Okay not everyone, but two girls. Why? Yeah, he meet them earlier but still. He was used to sitting in a corner alone. Noticing Nana come in, he gave a smile. It wasn't strong or anything, but it wouldn't be called weak exactly. He returned his attention to Aileen.

    "S...surprise..?" Victor said in a weak voice as he shrugged his shoulders.

    Only to nearly jump out of his seat when he heard the door shut loudly. He turned his attention to the Professor. Course, he felt more nervous now. Her mentioning how one little thing could go wrong and then...BOOOM!!! Nothing is left. That was the thing to keep in mind with potions. Veritaserum? Wasn't that a truth serum?

    "It's a...p...powerful....truth serum..." Victor said in his nervous and stuttering voice, he quickly silenced himself due to it and looked a bit down at the desk he was at.

    Nice way to start off class huh?

Lia looked up as the last student walked in and she heard the professor start talking. Veritaserum... She thought but a boy beat her to the punch and she listened to him. She knew right away that she was going to have to start juggling workload and her prefect duties, as well as Quidditch. She let that thought go and she paid attention to everything that the class had. Maybe she could learn something and actually be able to retain it today.

She knew that the first thing she was going to do was go and do whatever work Professor Lovelace was to give them. She stopped plotting and she paid attention fully to the class then. She did not want to miss a single thing, and she even ignored the students who had been talking earlier and she just started to take notes on the potion for the day.

The class was dark enough for a vampire and potions is his major. He will obviously rule the class, taking it away from those know it all Ravenclaws just to keep his boredom at bay. A boy spoke up his explanation on the serum, he sounded familiar but Ken was uninterested. He stretched like a cat as he continued on from where the boy had stopped. "And it is most commonly used in interrogation. The potion effectively forces the drinker to answer any questions asked of them truthfully, though there are some methods of resistance. They work best upon the unsuspecting, the vulnerable and those insufficiently skilled to protect themselves against it." He itched to continue on but this was sufficient enough to answer the professor's question.
